Early in the morning unfortunately came the cancellation of Denise Herrmann-Wick, who was not feeling quite fit and did not want to take any risks with a view to the upcoming races. Also Anna Weidel, who would have been eligible to start as 23rd in the overall World Cup, unfortunately had to withdraw for health reasons. So Vanessa Voigt and Sophia Schneider represented the German team today.
Vanessa Voigt was at the top of the field right at the beginning of the race, but then had to shoot a penalty loop, so that she initially ended up in 9th place. The race did not start without mistakes for Sophia Schneider either: she fell far behind with two laps to go. Italian Lisa Vittozzi took the lead together with Lena Haecki-Gross and Lisa Hauser.
Julia Simon did the same as her male counterpart Johannes Thingnes Boe and worked her way back to the front after her mistake in the first shooting and pulled away from the chasers together with Lisa Vittozzi. Vanessa Voigt stayed in 4th position with clear shooting and thus within striking distance to the podium.
The leading duo Simon/Vittozzi opened the chance for the following with one penalty each in the last shooting, but can take the lead again followed by Anais Chevalier-Bouchet and Vanessa Voigt.
The last shooting was decided by the Italian, but only a blink of an eye ahead of the French. Julia Simon was able to break away in the end and crossed the finish line first.
Lisa Vittozzi was second ahead of Anais Chevalier-Bouchet. Sweden's Linn Persson finished fourth, just ahead of Vanessa Voigt.
Sophia Schneider hadn't the best day, with 8 misses she finished the race in 30th position.
