Many roads lead to Rome – and the same is true for the Biathlon World Cup in Ruhpolding (held from January 14-19, 2020). Due to ist location in the Miesenbacher Valley surrounded by the Chiemgau Mountains, there are only three direct roads to Ruhpolding, and none of them are mulit-lane. Since the number of people in Ruhpolding multiplies daily during the biathlon week, good logistics are required to get everyone to the Chiemgau Arena on time.
The event organizers recommend using public transportation to travel to Ruhpolding. One option is the local Südostbayern train. This train goes nearly hourly between Traunstein and Ruhpolding: until midnight on weekdays, and on the weekends there is even a late train at 1 a.m. This year again everyone holding a biathlon ticket can use the trains free of charge on the day of the ticket from Traunreut, Waging, Traunstein, Garching a.d.Alz and Siegsdorf. Parking is available at the train stations.
The free shuttle buses go from Inzell and Ruhpolding directly to the stadium, as well as the bus line “Achentallinie 1”, “Achentallinie 2” and the bus from Reit im Winkl. Please note: an advance seat reservation will be necessary for some buses!
Of course we have transportation covered for the night owls as well: after the awards ceremony at 19:30 each evening, the free town bus line (Dorflinie) runs through the town a final time at 21:30, as well as a bus to Inzell (regular fare). On the nights from Thursday to Friday and Saturday to Sunday, there will be a final bus of the night at 3:30 a.m. The route for this bus is from Ruhpolding to Traunstein via Inzell, Siegsdorf, Bergen and Vachendorf for 5,00 € - so there is nothing to get in the way of enjoying the party at the Championspark!
