In this final race in the Chiemgau Arena the term “individual competition” got a whole new meaning. From the very beginning, the Finnish athlete Kaisa Mäkäräinen was skiing her rounds all alone. Yet she persisted in a concentrated manner, “In biathlon you never know what is still coming up ahead. I focused completely on my race.” Only in the first standing bout did she show any weakness with one miss. Since the snowfall stopped during the course of the women’s’ race, the conditions were significantly better that at noon for the men. “The snow was still quite slow in the first round, but I had great equipment and that helped me go faster with each round.”
The Czech World Cup leader Gabriela Koukalova crossed the finish line with a delay of one minute and two misses. Now in the second station of the “trimester” racing is in her legs. “Skiing was hard for me today. I think I need a few days to relax.”
The French athlete Marie Dorin Habert improved from fourth to third place with three shooting errors. She is in currently good form but has a lot ahead of her: “I am focusing on the Olympic Games next year and there is quite a bit of room for improvement.” In spite of a sensational pursuit race in the last round, Dahlmeier could not catch up with the 30 year old Frenchwoman. Altogether she achieved a top race time and made fourth place with a delay of 1.32 minutes and three misses.
